Our group's topic is the beauty of each nation. Especially, I choose one nation, Iran, and I'm going to introduce Iran's beauty! Last time, I posted a chador that is worn by Iranian women when they go out. Therefore, I want to explain what Iranian men have on when they go outside.
Picture
First of all, Iranian clerics wear a turban which looks like a hat. In other Muslim countries, ordinary people are also favorite to wear a turban. People have on a turban folding their heads by the thin cloth that is usually 5~10 meters long and 25 centimeters wide.
To start with, It was used to keep the heat and sandstorm away from Iranian men in the desert. However, it serves as a symbol of people's status in Iran. For instance, the clerics of high rank can wear a blue turban and the successors of Mohanmmed can have a black turban on. Especially, registered clerics were able to wear a turban when the Reza Shah Pahlavi King ruled Iran in early 1900s. If people who didn't have a licence worn a turban, they was beaten or dragged to prison.

If so, what kind of clothes do ordinary Iranian men not clerics put on? They surprisingly wear clothes of west! It means they go outside wearing a T-shirt and pants. They relatively have free clothes on compared Iranian women who wear a chador when they go out, of course, it doesn't admit of too short pants and tight fitting clothes.  Anyway, Iranian men can express their individuality of appearance more easily.

By extension, they give variety to their hairstyle. But Iranian government announces its plan to prohibit men's decadent hairstyle of west. It is banned to tie their hair back and make it stand with gel. The government says the strange hairstyle is prohibited grounds for the Islamic law, Muslim culture and so on.

In Korea, the western clothes and hairstyle completely pervade, so, ordinary people's fashion makes no difference with America or Europe. However, Iran doesn't perfectly accept to western style. Iranian even think that the necktie is a symbol of decadent west. In my opinion, it can be one reason of this case that Iran and U. S. A don't get along well over the nuclear weapon.
I hit upon the ruling period of regent Heungseon in Korea when I think of Iran. Regent Heungseon didn't like western countries, what was worse, he refused to trade with those. It looks like that Iran doesn't like west, of course not denying trade with other countries.
I think it isn't necessary to emphasize its own culture too much to such an extent as to restrict freedom of people's liberty. Besides, it is not good to have a cultural toadyism. I think it is important to harmonize between tradition and west culture in order to live better lives. I hope to have this nice balance in Korea and Iran all together from now on.
